More than Just a Bike
A young man staying at the homeless shelter was referred to me by his case manager. We were able to assist with getting him a full time job that paid $8 an hour. The job was quite a distance from where he lived in Augusta. We researched ways to get to and from work. Carpooling was not an option as none of the company’s employees traveled from Augusta to the work location, cab fare was $30 one way, and the distance to walk to work was too far though he was willing to do so. Through the fund provided by United Way and Green St. Church we were able to purchase a bicycle from a local bike shop at the cost of $178.48.
