2009 United Way Campaign Chairs

We are a community of seemingly ordinary people but together we accomplish extraordinary things.  As we take on the honor of chairing this year's United Way of Kennebec Valley campaign, we are very grateful for so many "ordinary" people who are part of our Leadership Circle.  Last year as co-chairs of the Leadership Circle we had the opportunity to meet many of you and you are far from ordinary!

We have accomplished extraordinary things together.  Whether it is providing a setting for support for children who have lost a loved one; providing a safe and supportive environment for teens; making it possible for caregivers of those with Alzheimer's to have a respite break; sheltering the homeless; providing fuel assistance for families struggling through the winter; or providing food, clothing, and shelter while recovering from a fire or escaping an abusive living situation, together we have done extraordinary things!

The Leadership Circle gifts provide over 25% of our funding for 39 agencies every year.  Over 350 ordinary people are leaders and we know that number will grow this year.
Thank you for helping our community accomplish extraordinary things!

Ordinary People. Extraordinary Results!

A young man staying at the homeless shelter was referred to me by his case manager. We were able to assist with getting him a full time job that paid $8 an hour. The job was quite a distance from where he lived in Augusta. We researched ways to get to and from work. Carpooling was not an option as none of the company’s employees traveled from Augusta to the work location, cab fare was $30 one way, and the distance to walk to work was too far though he was willing to do so. Through the fund provided by United Way and Green St. Church we were able to purchase a bicycle from a local bike shop at the cost of $178.48.-
