Allocations Committee

Committee Chair(s):
Jenny Small Vice President, Allocations

Comittee Description:

THE ALLOCATION COMMITTEE, WHICH IS COMPOSED OF UNITED WAY BOARD MEMBERS AND LOCAL VOLUNTEERS, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALLOCATING YOUR DONATIONS TO AGENCIES IN OUR COMMUNITY. CHANGE THAT MATTERS.

Allocating funds to programs at United Way Partner Agencies is an involved process. Over 40 trained volunteers from within our community serve on the Allocations Committee. They spend several months carefully analyzing our community's needs, evaluating the performance and impact of Partner Agencies and studying funding requests. Campaign funds are distributed to programs that make the greatest impact in our community after the United Way's Board of Directors approves the committee's recommendations.

All the committee members study the documents submitted by the agencies. Small groups of committee members are assigned to study each agency in depth and serve as a liaison between the committee and the agency. Members of the Allocations Committee work to ensure that the needs of Kennebec Valley residents are met in the most cost-efficient manner possible. Without them, the efficiency and impact of your dollars would not be as widely felt through our community. The United Way would like to thank all of those who have participated in the allocations process.

For more information on the allocations process or if you are interested in serving on the United Way Allocations Committee in the future, contact the United Way at 626-3400 or visit www.uwkv.org.

Ordinary People. Extraordinary Results!

A young man staying at the homeless shelter was referred to me by his case manager. We were able to assist with getting him a full time job that paid $8 an hour. The job was quite a distance from where he lived in Augusta. We researched ways to get to and from work. Carpooling was not an option as none of the company’s employees traveled from Augusta to the work location, cab fare was $30 one way, and the distance to walk to work was too far though he was willing to do so. Through the fund provided by United Way and Green St. Church we were able to purchase a bicycle from a local bike shop at the cost of $178.48.-
